Commercial Graphic Design
Research papers under this category deals with the aesthetic styles, fabrication methods, and other issues of graphic design, in terms of its interaction with business and civic environment. The first and second papers have been originally completed as research projects in the Art 185 and 285 Independent Study courses taught by Professor Michael Owens. Special thanks for his great advice on artistic expressions in public space in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
1. Artistic Expressions in Public Spaces in Los Angeles and Some Other American Cities (1st file, 2nd file, 3rd file, and 4th file): This research paper explores art works (murals, sculptures, building decorations and others) found in permanant display in public and commercial spaces, such as shopping malls, college campuses, and parks, in the Greater Los Angeles Area and some other American cities. The research paper intends to understand the meaning of arts in the everayday life of the communities
2. Logos and Signage in Los Angeles and Some Other American Cities: This research paper explores corporate identity design and signage display found in the Greater Los Angeles Area and some other American cities, in terms of their categories and styles.
Adobe Photoshop Special Effects
Instructional manuals under this category deals with particular sets of Photoshop tools and settings used to achieve some special graphical effects. The first manual has been originally completed as a research project in the Art 385 Independent Study course taught by Professor Samuel Monaci. Special thanks for his great advice on some Photoshop tools.
1. Using Adobe Photoshop to Create Digital cartoons (1st file, 2nd file, 3rd file, and 4th file): This instructional manual explores a variety of tools in Adobe Photoshop that can be used to convert a "normal" digital picture into a cartoon or caricature image.
